Job description

Institution: VITO (Flemish Institute for Technological Research)

Affiliated University: University of Hasselt (UHasselt)

Position Overview:

Are you a motivated graduate student with a Master's degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field? Do you have a passion for sustainability and a desire to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research? We invite you to join our dynamic team as a Ph.D. student and contribute to a groundbreaking project in battery recycling.

Research Focus:

The Ph.D. research project will focus on the experimental development of novel routes to recover, purify and regenerate cathode active materials from end-of-life Li-ion batteries. This innovative approach, known as "direct recycling routes", holds the key to addressing critical environmental and economical challenges and advancing the field of battery recycling technology.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Ph.D. student at VITO, in collaboration with the University of Hasselt, you will:

  1. Investigate and optimize direct recycling routes for cathode active materials from Li-ion batteries.
  2. Conduct experimental research to develop sustainable and efficient recycling processes to extract and purify spent cathode materials from end-of-life batteries.
  3. Characterize materials and assess their performance to ensure high-quality regenerated materials.
  4. Collaborate with a diverse team of experts and researchers in a stimulating research environment.

What We Offer:

  1. Cutting-Edge Research: Join a pioneering research project that addresses pressing environmental concerns while advancing the field of materials science.
  2. Collaborative Environment: Work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art research facilities.
  3. Expert Guidance: Receive guidance and mentorship from leading researchers and professors in the field.
  4. Personal and Professional Development: Opportunities for skill development, training, and attendance at conferences and workshops.
  5. Competitive Funding: Generous funding and stipend packages for qualified candidates.

We are excited to welcome passionate and dedicated Ph.D. students to our team. Join us in making a significant impact on the future of sustainable battery (recycling) technology.

How to apply?
Applications should be submitted online and include a copy of your CV, diploma transcripts and a cover letter.

More information about the application procedure is available on the VITO website.

You can register until July 8, 2024 for the jury of September 25, 2024.
