VITO is further expanding its research program 'Sustainable Materials Management'. In doing so, we focus on research aimed at upgrading low-grade material streams into high-value products. In collaboration with industrial companies and other knowledge institutions, we develop applications in this field and bring them to market.

Our focus is on processing inorganic streams such as ashes and slags, and end-of-life products containing valuable metals. Using innovative techniques, we recycle the valuable elements present (e.g. metals) and materials (e.g. active battery materials), and seek useful applications for the remaining matrix, such as sustainable construction materials. (Near-)zero-waste processing and circularity are at the heart of our approach.

For this innovative and forward-looking research program, we are looking for an experienced researcher to strengthen our team.

A selection of your responsibilities:

• You are responsible for acquiring, executing, and coordinating scientific research projects.

• As a VITO expert in this research domain, you give presentations at (international) forums and publish in scientific journals.

• You build an (international) network of high-level partners and identify opportunities to set up concrete projects in industry. In short, you contribute to VITO's growth as a recognized international leader in this field.

• You hold a Master's degree in (Applied) Sciences (Chemistry, Bioscience Engineering, Civil Engineering, …).

• You have a broad chemical background. Specific expertise in inorganic chemistry, mineral processing and recycling is an asset.

• You have research experience, preferably in an industrial / industry-oriented R&D environment.

• You have strong communication skills and feel at ease in (international) networks.

• You have a customer-oriented attitude and an eye for opportunities. Entrepreneurship and initiative-taking are traits that characterize you.

• You have good project management skills and strong organizational abilities.

• You are a flexible team player who can also work independently with ease.

• Knowledge of Dutch and English is required.
