To strengthen our team and advance the development and improvement of new approach methodologies (NAMs) using the zebrafish embryo, we are hiring a post-doc trained in molecular biology with bioinformatics skills. The post-doc research will be dedicated to the enhancement of the current zebrafish embryo model developed at VITO for evaluation of chronic endpoints (teratogenicity, developmental neurotoxicity) with effect biomarkers to improve mechanism-based toxicity assessment. Specific tasks include literature study, experimental design, and support in lab exposure studies with zebrafish embryos, bioinformatics analysis for biomarker selection, model validation and publication of results.
The improved, and reliable screening model with zebrafish embryo should be part of a toolbox of innovative non-animal test methods to support the modelling and design of safe, non-regrettable chemicals and new materials. The post-doc will have a main role in the work package on development/optimisation of innovative tools for safety assessment in a 4-year Horizon Europe research project on Safe and Sustainable by Design (https://www.ssbd4chem.eu/ )
