Central to our mission are high-performance advanced materials, which are pivotal for technological innovations necessary to achieve a circular economy and a climate-neutral society. Within our 'structured materials' research line, we focus on developing these materials and their applications via smart shaping and surface modification techniques. This work supports sustainable production across various industrial sectors. Utilizing our advanced technological platforms, including 3D printing, microsphere synthesis, and surface modification technologies, VITO crafts novel hierarchically structured materials. These materials are designed to deliver superior performance while requiring less resources and energy, thus enhancing sustainability throughout their lifecycle.


To advance our ambitious goals, we are seeking an innovation Project Manager Structured Materials to join our dynamic team.


Your responsibilities:

  • Lead the application process for national and/or international projects from idea and consortium development, to writing and finalizing applications together with industry and research partners
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities that align with the team’s strategic objectives
  • Upon project approval of the project, lead, manage and coordinate research projects to ensure an efficient execution of activities within the defined timeframe and budget
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among project team members, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Play a key role in developing the research portfolio of the group through active collaboration with industry and academic partners

Job requirements

  • You have a PhD degree in science or engineering with at least 5 years of R&D experience after your PhD
  • You have experience in material synthesis, surface modification, powder processing or design and shaping of structured materials
  • You have experience in coordinating and/or writing R&D proposals for national or international (preferably European) funding agencies
  • Good project management and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ideally, you have experience in managing multi-disciplinary research projects and an established track record in national and/or European projects
  • You are result-driven and work in an efficient and organized manner
  • You are a team player but can also work independently
