The Sustainability & Circularity Assessment team at VITO/EnergyVille provides science and fact-based advice with focus on the built environment and energy technologies. The team is part of EnergyVille, a collaboration between the Belgian research partners VITO, KU Leuven, IMEC and UHasselt.

We are looking for a driven Senior Expert and Project Manager to join our interdisciplinary team, dedicated to supporting VITO’s long-standing commitment to advancing sustainability through innovation. We focus on driving the transition to a more sustainable built environment, with a particular emphasis on the sustainability and circularity assessment of buildings and energy technologies, as well as related EU policies and their implementation in Member States. We lead and manage key framework and service contracts, supporting European, national and regional policy makers with innovative thinking and outreach, based on scientifically founded analysis and data driven research.

But most important, we are a great team that has fun together! Does this sound good to you? Then you might just become our enthusiastic new colleague ...

Some of your tasks:

  • You manage large framework and service contracts in the field of sustainability and circularity assessment, such as the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) for the European Commission. The objective of this Framework Contract is to provide DG Environment with expert assistance in the areas of environmental analyses, techno-economic assessments, and scientific guidance for formulating policies regarding product regulations. These policies pertain specifically to the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, the Ecodesign Directive and, where applicable, the EU Ecolabel.
  • You are able to lead the full process of (research) projects from start to finish, including the acquisition, management and content (e.g. manage our team contribution within national and European consortia such as Horizon Europe).
  • You can lead and work on consultancy assignments for policy makers and industry and be able to present these results to a broad audience.
  • As senior expert you are responsible for supporting our efforts to foster more sustainable business models, protect the environment, and strengthen the competitiveness and resilience of the EU economy.
  • You will ensure innovation in our field of expertise in terms of the further development of the methodology for the ecodesign of energy-related products (MEErP), sustainability and circularity methodologies, scenario analyses, digitization and data processing.
  • Finally, you are eager to identify project opportunities that match our research strategy, and you are motivated to lead the acquisition of projects, including the writing of offers and project proposals.

Job requirements

  • You have at least 5 years of demonstrable work experience in the acquisition and execution of national, European or international projects.
  • You hold a Master's degree in a relevant field, a PhD is a plus.
  • You have experience with policy support in the relevant field. You are a flexible team player who enjoys challenging projects.
  • You are adept at communicating and writing clear, understandable reports in English.
  • Knowledge of Dutch is of added value, but not required.

Offer

  • You have real impact as you look for innovative solutions for today's and tomorrow’s challenges.
  • You are supported by excellent, helpful and fun colleagues that are eager to share their expertise in the field.
  • You will be part of an organization where we show integrity and always strive for mutual benefit in close cooperation with all parties involved.
  • VITO/EnergyVille is an international organization: 40 different nationalities work with us. Our working language is English.
  • On average we meet 2 days a week in our EnergyVille office in Genk. We work ‘activity based’: our activities determine our workplace. For the other days you can choose to work remotely from home or at one of our satellite offices (for example in Leuven or Antwerp-Berchem) depending on the needs of the activity. Due to the nature of this position, a high level of flexibility is a plus.
  • We consider work-life balance to be of paramount importance at VITO. We are open to discuss your needs at any time and we have a flexible approach to finding solutions.
