R&D Researcher Environment & Health - European Policy Advice

Job description

As a Flemish, internationally recognized research center, VITO wants to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world.

With its research program Health, VITO is committed to supporting the social transitions to a more preventive health system. One of the pillars is disease prevention due to environmental pollution. Measurements of chemicals in the environment and in humans combined with information on lifestyle factors which can influence exposure (for example diet, stress, physical activity, green space, use of consumer products) and with information on adverse effects provide essential information which we can use to map the health risks and advise on measures to control them.

We are looking for a new colleague to strengthen our team in translating the results of our health research to solutions for policy makers.

  • You will participate in various European research projects in the field of environment & health and manage specific tasks in these projects.
  • You will contribute to the development of innovative methods and tools for chemical exposure, hazard and risk assessment and generate knowledge, data and tools to provide support for policy makers.
  • You will report study results by drafting technical and scientific reports and peer reviewed publications.
  • You will present research- and project results on (inter)national fora and ensures knowledge transfer to the team.

Job requirements

  • You have a Master/PhD in a scientifically oriented field such as Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering,....
  • Your ambition is to contribute to science-based policy to prevent diseases arising from chemical pollution.
  • Chemical, toxicological and epidemiological knowledge are required.
  • You can critically analyze datasets and synthesize them into useful advice for policy makers and other customers. You work solution oriented.
  • Networking in an international context gives you energy.

Furthermore, you are eager to learn. You enjoy organizing projects and tasks and you work accurately and systematically. Meeting deadlines is your strength. You are an initiator who can work smoothly in a team and can adapt to changing circumstances. You have strong communication skills and are able to express yourself clearly, in English, both verbally and in writing.
