Analyst Sustainable Supply Chain Optimisation

Hybrid
  • Mol, Vlaams Gewest, Belgium
R&D & Engineering

Job description

Are you a creative and passionate researcher with an interest in sustainable supply chain optimization? Then you can contribute to local and global projects for public and private clients to provide supply chain decision support across many different business sectors like food & feed, courier services, logistics & transport, agriculture & forestry, industry & construction.

You will join the MooV-team. MooV is VITO’s decision support service dedicated to optimising supply chain configurations and to support clients in rethinking their supply chains in an independent and scientific manner. MooV focusses on the impact assessment of strategic and tactical decisions, such as determining the location of new activities, merging chains, introducing multi-modality or investigating circularity effects.

To provide this service we use our in-house developed MooV-model. The model combines linear programming and advanced (geo)analytics to define, design and optimize supply chains. In each project, we extend the MooV model to include the characteristics and specifics of the client’s supply chain and then apply the specific model to quantify the impact of variations to the supply chain. Finally, we guide them through the results to support their decision-making process.

This means you are involved in servicing our clients with supply chain decision support in research as well as commercial projects. In this servicing trajectory you will

  • Define the current supply chain and alternative variations in close collaboration with the client and gather the necessary data
  • Design the optimisation model (building on our existing MooV-model) to analyse the impact of these variations on the client’s supply chain
  • Deliver decision support to the client by means of result reporting and consult

Some examples of our last projects:

  • The optimisation of the on-site logistic streams for an industrial client – with focus on minimization of vehicle and product movements
  • The optimisation of postal package distribution on regional level – with focus on cooperation strategies
  • The optimisation of building material supply to large building sites – with focus on the implementation of a consolidation hub

Your job:

You are part of the MooV-team and contribute to deliver excellence across our client portfolio;

  • You guide the client through the process from define-design-deliver
    • Define: You capture the client’s supply chain optimisation question and support the framing of these questions. You acquire the necessary data. You stipulate specific client requirements.
    • Design: You translate the client’s questions and requirements into mathematical logic by customising our MooV-model (core-model)
    • Deliver: You test and validate the results in dialogue with the client. You report the results in a (non-technical) decision support format.
  • You maintain a direct communication with the client during the project lifetime
  • Your knowledge and input help determine the direction of the project
  • You contribute to expanding the MooV knowledge base
